Riley Wound Healing Center has received full accreditation from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). The accreditation indicates the highest industry standards and best practices in hyperbaric treatment. Riley is the 94th center in the nation to participate in the organization’s rigorous accreditation process.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) is a treatment in which the patient is exposed to 100 percent oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. This increased oxygen delivery stimulates the healing mechanisms of the body and assists in returning it to normal.
The UHMS accreditation process took over one year. A survey team evaluated the quality of the facility and equipment, the professionalism of the staff and their level of training and the quality of care and patient safety measures to ensure that the highest standards of quality care are maintained at the facility.
"Providing the best quality care is a top priority for us," said LaVisa R. Glass, Director for Riley Wound Healing Center. "We are very proud of this accreditation appointment and we’re committed to seeing that our facility serves as an industry benchmark for high standards and quality care." "Fostering patient trust is a key driver throughout our hospital," explained Mrs. Glass. "We hope this accreditation appointment gives patients the peace of mind that they are going to a facility that is operating at the top of its field."
The UHMS began the accreditation process in 2001 due to the growth in hyperbaric medicine. They use the process to measure quality assurance among wound care centers nationwide using Hyperbaric Oxygen. The medical industry has responded to the growing need for sophisticated wound care with new treatments and technology. One of the most effective treatments is HBO.
The UHMS is an international, non-profit organization serving 2,000 members from more than 50 countries. The UHMS is the primary source of scientific information for diving and hyperbaric medicine physiology worldwide.
