"Providing Services Locally
for Our Patients' Convenience"
Rehabilitation means reshaping lives and restoring lost abilities
after an illness or injury. Whether recovering from a stroke,
a fall or a serious illness, rehabilitation can make a difference
in the quality of life for most patients.

In 1999, Riley Hospital recognized a need in east Mississippi
for a facility that allowed patients to receive intensive
rehabilitation and 24-hour care, yet stay conveniently close
to home and family. A rehabilitation unit was established
on the fourth floor of the hospital to meet that need; today,
the 20-bed, Medicare-certified center is East Mississippi's
only inpatient rehabilitation facility.
In spring of 2002, the center was dedicated in honor of retired
local businessman Tom C. Maynor in recognition of his strong
advocacy on behalf of stroke survivors and their families.
At the Tom C. Maynor Rehabilitation Center, we are dedicated
to treating the whole patient - physically, emotionally and
socially - and provide a wide range of therapy services to
help our patients return to their highest level of functioning
and independence.
The Tom C. Maynor Rehabilitation Center at Riley Hospital is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
Our
Mission
The mission of the Tom C. Maynor Rehabilitation Center is
to provide a comprehensive rehabilitation program of the highest
quality in order to improve the functional independence of
our patients by adhering to the overall patient program goals.
Our
Patients
In our rehabilitation program, we serve patients who require
intensive physical and occupational therapy as a result of
stroke, hip fracture, joint replacement, amputation and arthritis.
Our
Team
We have comprised a team of highly trained professionals to
deal with every aspect of the patient's treatment and recovery.
The team, headed by our medical director, includes rehabilitation
nurses; physical, occupational and speech therapists; and
social workers. They all work together to develop goals and
coordinate and plan patient care.
Family members also are an integral part of the rehabilitation
team. They are encouraged to assist in goal setting, participate
in the care of the patient and attend scheduled therapy treatment
sessions with the patient. The family is educated on the patient's
limitations and strengths and how to help the patient continue
functional improvements at home. But, the most important member of the team is the patient,
and success depends on his or her commitment to the goals.
Our
Program
Patients find that time in our program is different from a
routine hospital stay. We believe that caring for patients
means helping them learn to do as much for themselves as possible.
Patients participate in a daily schedule of one-on-one therapy;
group treatment; community re-entry and adaptive leisure activities;
patient and family education, training and support; and other
goal-directed activities. Upon discharge, patients continue
their course of treatment in their community environment and
return to the care of their personal physician.
