Wound Healing Center

The Wound Healing Center at Riley Hospital provides a comprehensive wound treatment program designed to offer high-quality care to patients suffering from wounds that have not responded to traditional treatment or are chronic non-healing wounds.

Approximately five million Americans suffer from chronic open sores that can become seriously infected, gangrenous and, in some cases, can require amputation. This can occur when wounds do not respond to standard forms of treatment and require advanced methods. If you are suffering from a non-healing wound, you are not alone. Every year, chronic wounds, caused by diabetes, poor circulation or other conditions, keep Americans just like you from doing the things they love to do. Our Wound Healing Center at Riley Hospital can help you get your life back.

We employ proven methods that have established an impressive record of healing wounds that others thought hopeless, including many that might have required amputation. These carefully researched methods allow patients to receive state-of-the-art treatment of wounds that have resisted healing despite months, or even years, of conventional treatment.

A Multidisciplinary Approach

The Wound Healing Center continues to raise the bar in chronic wound care by using a progressive, multi-disciplinary approach that cures not only the wound but also, more importantly, addresses the underlying cause. Our unique team of dedicated physicians and nurses are specially trained to assure the best available care. Our physicians and nurses undergo state-of-the-art training by nationally recognized wound care specialists, learning the latest advancements in non-healing wound care. Especially difficult cases are reviewed by leading experts in the field. Everything we do is geared toward working with you to reach a successful outcome. We specialize in wounds. It's all we do.

Working Together

Making the choice is the first important step in your treatment program. We will inform your doctor about your treatment program and the progress you are making. We compile detailed weekly reports that document the wound-healing course. This allows us to monitor your progress and tracks your individualized care. We also send a monthly progress report to your primary care physician with color photographs that show your healing improvements. We are a group of specialists dedicated to solving a specific problem -- healing of your wound. Together with you and your doctor, we offer promise
for wounds that are difficult to heal. The center only treats wounds, so you will continue to consult your regular doctor for additional medical care.

Preparing For Your First Visit

When you call for your appointment, you will be asked a few questions concerning your wound and your general health. Your visit will be scheduled at a convenient time, and it is important to bring a list of current medications and any allergies you are aware of. Also, please bring any medical records that are pertinent to your wound. Most health plans cover The Wound Healing Center. Please bring your insurance information to your first appointment.

Your First Visit - It All Begins With A Caring Environment

Before beginning treatment, the wound healing doctors, nurses, and therapists will evaluate your wound and review your medical history and general health. You may have special tests to provide us with important information about the flow of blood, tissue oxygenation and whether or not infection is complicating the healing process.

Your Treatment Program

Once your results are in, our wound healing team, in conjunction with your primary care physician, will develop a treatment program based on your special needs. Your program will involve regular visits to the center to provide treatment, follow your progress or make necessary changes in your treatment program. You will also be instructed in home care, dressing changes and ways to protect yourself from further injury. For some patients who require additional special treatment, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, bio-engineered tissue, and vac-assisted closure is available. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy uses 100% oxygen breathed at higher than normal pressures to enhance healing in problem wounds.

You Are the Key In Your Treatment Program

Much of the success of your wound treatment depends on your level of commitment and participation. As an active member of your wound management team, you will need to follow directions carefully, watch your progress closely, and keep appointments. Remember, your Wound Healing staff is available to answer any questions concerning your treatment program.

Consider the Wound Healing Center one of your doctor's special resources, dedicated to the chronic wound. Together, we can help you get your life back!
